"And of course, the brain is not responsible for any of the sensations at all. The correct view is that the seat and source of sensation is the region of the heart."

~Aristotle

So I had a MRI scan done for an experiment last month, and a few days ago they finally emailed me a few pictures!

It's pretty awesome, if I may say so myself. =D
After getting the imagines, I've been looking at them, identifying the different parts, etc, etc. And it's pretty cool how different parts look exactly like the diagrams that they use in textbooks. (i.e. the brain stem). Which is kind of stupid, I know, since they modeled the diagrams after actual brain parts, of course they'll look alike! Still, one of the small surprises, I guess...
Yeah, I need a life.

Massive Dynamic

Oh dear, it's been a while hasn't it... And to think I should be more productive in the summer time.

Anyway, a little website I discovered the other day. It's surprising that it took me so long.

http://www.massivedynamic.com/index.php

Yes, Massive Dynamic is the company from the TV show Fringe. One of the most awesome shows around these days. WATCH IT.

It's just really cool how they set everything up as if it were a real website, for a real company. Even the content can be easily taken be real life products. Which honestly, it might be, just not out for the average consumer yet.
Oh fringe science...

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings

By Maya Angelou

The free bird leaps
on the back of the win
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and is tune is heard
on the distant hillfor the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
an the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Come Wander With Me

Composed by Jeff Alexander and sung by Bonnie Beecher
For the Twilight Zone episode of the same name.

He said
Come wander with me love
Come wander with me
Away from this sad world
Come wander with me
He came from the sunset
He came from the sea
He came from my sorrow
And can love only me

There are many covers of this song. But no one can match her voice.

The Illustrated Guide to a Ph.D.

(Found by a friend of mine, it's very simplistic [in the artistic good way] and  rather cute, I think) :

By Matt Might

"Every fall, I explain to a fresh batch of Ph.D. students what a Ph.D. is.
It's hard to describe it in words.
So, I use pictures.
Read below for the illustrated guide to a Ph.D. "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine a circle that contains all of human knowledge:

By the time you finish elementary school, you know a little:
By the time you finish high school, you know a bit more:
With a bachelor's degree, you gain a specialty:
A master's degree deepens that specialty:
Reading research papers takes you to the edge of human knowledge:
Once you're at the boundary, you focus:
You push at the boundary for a few years:
Until one day, the boundary gives way:
And, that dent you've made is called a Ph.D.:
Of course, the world looks different to you now:
So, don't forget the bigger picture:
Keep pushing.

Art from the Future?

Stunning monuments. It would be great to get a description of their actual size. Or to have a person standing beside one of them for a reference. Quite a few of them remind me of Beksinski paintings...

The "alien"istic qualities that they all contain. Telling a story of a tragic ending for a mighty society past its prime. They are absolutely gorgeous pieces...

I really like a few of them: "Tjentište", "Makljen", "Kadinjača", and the one above, "Podgarić".

Biggest Drawing in the World

It's fantastic, the world as your canvas.

Obviously, it's not exactly as drawn, because the world is round. The actual image would be a lot more shakier and distorted.

But, it does create the idea of what would we see if we all traced our steps. Literally or in other senses - it'll be really cool, because it'll be like us, quite unique and fascinating.

(And, the guy must be pretty well off, or at least had a lot of sponsors to pull this off)

Calculus

And here I am, procrastinating on studying for math test. Which, undoubtfully, I'm going to fail.

Anyway.

The other day, we were learning about differential equations. Direction fields, etc, etc. While connecting the dotted lines that make up the field, I realized, that this type of conceptual/w.eyoucallit math, is incredibly beautiful. How you can model something through a concept - pulling something out of a few (and I hesitate to use this word) simple equations, it's quite breathtaking.

Obviously, something that I will never be able to do or even understand, judging by the progress I'm currently making.

But, one can still appreciate the beauty of it.

P.s. Birthday coming up in 2 days! =D. Well... technically tomorrow, since I'm writing this at 12am on Monday.

To sell oneself? =/

Society seems to require a lot of it. It seems to be a necessity. I don't like it...
